What a Week

Ok, so maybe it was not the best idea to start a "life-style" change the week of your 2 year anniversary and the week you going out of town.  But, I just figured that there was no better time than the present.

So, while it was tough, I still figure that there were soon good lessons this week!

Here are my weigh ins for the weeks along with some info on the day:
Mon (11/5): 183.2 - day one and I did great.  This week was filled with tons of late nights at work and this was one them.

Tue (11/6): 182.2 - progress!  Also my 2 year anniversary!  Happy Anniversary to my Prince!  Here are a couple of pictures of the flowers!  So pretty!  Or as my 3 year old niece would say, how beautiful!

Wed (11/7): 181.4 - more progress!  Good thing we made healthy stir-fry for our anniversary dinner last week!

Thurs (11/8): 180.8 - more progress!

Fri: (11/9): 182.8- so, I was bummed when I saw this jump up!  It was too long ago to really know what I ate or did to get here.  Don't you hate that?  But I do know that Thursday I went out to dinner for Lunch ( work required event) and then for dinner.  So, my fault, I am sure.  But, seeing thursdays nu,bee was encouraging.  We also left for Michigan this day, no scale and no working out for the next few days.  I did run today. Here is the run info for today:  3.13 mi Run / Jog 38:44 * 512 kCal * 12:21 min/mi.  This was slightly faster than my other days.  Probably because I didn't have my running buddies!!!

Saturday/Sunday/Monday /Tuesday - nill for now due to traveling!

I will be back soon! Hopefully with more time and back on the program!

Manic Monday

So, I weighed in at 183.2this morning.  I was a little disappointed, but, I am not defeated.  The Prince and I got up this morning and went for our 3+ mile walk with the dogs.  So, at least I got that in, because I did not get to the kickboxing class after work, because I was at work until after 6pm.  That is okay though because I was getting myself situated to be out of the office tomorrow morning because we are volunteering at the food bank! And, I guess it did not help that I was in a class all morning.

From a diet stand point, it was a low carb day.  I was really good until about 5 pm when I caved and grabbed some candy.  Not on the diet - high or low carb day!  But, I am going to just get back on the wagon.  I ate great for dinner.

Tomorrow is a high carb day.  We are going to lunch after our volunteer session, so I am going to make good, smart choices.  I won't beagle to walk tomorrow morning because I have to get to work early for the volunteer session.  BUT, my gym bag is still in my car and hopefully I can make Body Works @ 5:45 tomorrow night!

Here is a picture of my adorable walking partners this morning, all bundled up at 5am!

Oh so cute!

Hopefully the scale will show some progress tomorrow!

Cheers!

On a Roll...

So, I feel a little funny because I have posted 3 times today, but I really have had the time and I KNOW that I will not be able to keep this up.   But, I wanted to document this journey as much as possible.

I have successfully eaten to my plan that I outlined in the previous post.  And, I worked out.  And, I prepped for my meals this week as well!  So, not only did I start off on the right foot, I hope that I have set myself up for success tomorrow and the rest of the week.

Here is the report from my run using the map my run app:
Workout: Run
Date: Nov 4, 2012
Distance: 3.24 mi
Duration: 44:16
13.39 miles per min
-  My time was probably slightly faster but I had to stop a few times to re-fuel my running partner!

Tomorrow is a low carb day.  My 5 meals have been laid out.  And, my work out plan is to walk in the morning and then go to the gym at 5:45pm after I get out of work for a kickboxing class.

Day One, Month One - I am unstoppable

Well, that title is kinda lame because on day one you should be unstoppable. I can't have been that hard yet... Right?

So, this morning I weighed in at 183.4, yes a whole pound down from yesterday!  Now don't get me wrong, most any other day I would say water weight, or some other excuse not to say that it was my doing.  BUT, in my new lifestyle, a new me,I am going to take credit!  Heck, I ran yesterday (a good run too), went to the dog park, refinished a quilt rack, and, at lunch I only ordered a mushroom enchilada and rice.  That's right, only 1 enchilada!  So, I think that I deserve a pat on the back for those choices!

Ok, moving on to my plan for the rest of my life, (or at least month 1):

MY DIET:  I am going to try something new- carb cycling.  I bought Chris Powel's book on carb cycling because I should be following a low carb/low GI diet due to having PCOS (another post), but it is just so hard to cut carbs out completely.  This seems like a really easy and sensible solution!  You alternate high and low carb days, still while counting calories.  You are supposed to eat 5 small meals per day & this will be the most difficult part for me, especially when you only are eating 1200 - 1500 calories a day!  That is 250-300 cal per meal.

Breakfast on both low and high carb days you get to eat a carb and a protein.  Then on the high carb days, you do the same thing for the other 4 meals.  On low carb days the other 4 meals are protein and vegetables.

Then the best part-  you get one cheat day that is high carb and high calorie!  So, you can save those cravings and eat those on your cheat day if needed!  Love this!

There are some rules to the eating plan.  One is that you must eat within 30 min of waking.  The other is that you must eat every 3 hours, which could be hard due to my meeting schedule at work.  But not excuses- I will find a way!  It will require a bit of planning, but the results will be worth it!

My plan:
Sun - high carb (1500 cal)
Mon - low carb (1200 cal)
Tues - high carb (1500 cal)
Wen- low carb (1200 cal)
Thurs - high carb (1500 cal)
Fri - low carb (1200)
Sat- cheat/high (2400)

EXERCISE: there is a workout component to the book, but I am not going to follow it exactly.  I am hoping that I will actually be working out more than the book recommends! The one thing I still have to figure out & that is the strength training component.  I may try to of..ow the book, but t is hard to follow.  So, I may look for a better laid out plan on line.  But, I the end, you have to do cardio and strength 5 days a week.  I do have goals set around this for the first month, see previous post.

LOOKING AT THE WEEK AHEAD-
Alright, now on to grocery shopping, menu planning and planning for my week ahead.  Looking a ahead, this week will be slightly interesting, as we leave for MI late on Friday night foe a biz turned pleasure trip.  I have already said that I will be packing work out clothes.  And the diet should be fine as sat and sun are my high carb days.  Monday I will be doing work stuff and Tuesday as well.  I fly home late Tuesday night.  Hopefully I will stick to the plan!

Happy Sunday!

Just the beginning...to the rest of my life

Ahh, the first post on a brand new blog.  I feel like I should have something profound to write here or share.  But I don't.  Unfortunately, I have some not so fun news to write here and that is how much weight I have gained in the past 2 years, since my wedding.  For my wedding almost 2 years ago, I lost a lot of weight (that is a story for another time).  I went from 207 to 170.  That is almost 40 pounds.  It took me a year and I STARVED, the entire time.  It was hard.  I married my amazing husband on November 6, 2010.  This morning on November 3, 2012 I weighed in at 184.4 and it sucks!  My clothes are getting tight.  I don't feel good about myself any more and I do not practice healthy habits!

That being said, I am making the choice that today is the beginning of the rest of my life.  A fit life.  A healthy life for me and my husband.

Goals For My Journey:

  • Ultimate goal weight: 150 pounds.  That is 25 pounds to loose.
  • Work out 5 days a week in addition to walking the dogs
  • Walk the dogs 5 days a week (3.5 pounds)
  • To start, follow Chris Powell's carb cycling program for my food plan
  • Give up soda completely
Current Metrics:
  • Weight: 184.4
  • Size: a tight 14

Month 1 Goals:
  • By December 1, 2012, I will weigh 177
  • By December 1, 2012, I will be able to run the 3.22 loop without walking.

Today is just the beginning!  I will do this!
